Some of you may have been wondering what happened to my Journey to a Healthier Me updates have meet for the past couple of weeks. Did I give up? No way! :)

I actually pulled a nerve in my lower back. Ouch! I've never done that before and I gotta tell ya, I hope I never to it again. The sad part is that I did it by falling on my butt after swinging and missing a set while planning sand volleyball. *insert long sigh here*

So anyway, I'm happy to share that I made it back to Denver Fitness Bootcamp last week and boy oh boy did it feel good to be back. It really became apparent to me how much I really love my morning workouts with Devin and his team when I wasn't able to go. I've never felt that way about anything exercise related...ever!

Now, for my goal updates:

Weight Lost So Far: 16 Pounds!
Clothes Fit: Loving it!
Energy: Fantastic!
Bootcamp Attendance: Back at it!
Diet: Hoping to make some more improvements in this area over the next couple of weeks.

For the past four months, I've been sharing with you my journey to get in shape with Denver Fitness Boot Camp. I have two months left and I'm so close to my weight loss goal that I can taste it. It is time for another Journey to a Healthier Me and Denver Fitness Boot Camp update! First, here are the highlights:

Water Intake: Getting better!So, you might notice that I have not lost any additional weight from the beginning of the month. :) Why? Long story short, I hurt my knee...while sitting on the couch. Yes, seriously. Never mind the three to four days a week butt kicking workouts...I managed to hurt my knee while literally doing nothing! How? I'm not really sure to be honest, but I think I might have hyper-extended it while sitting with me feet up for too long. Sheesh! The good news is that it is nothing serious and I hope to be back to boot camp next week.

Also contributing to my lack of additional loss of weight was my diet for the past week. See, a family member passed away which involved me flying home for a few days and lets just say that Midwest food and my waistline do not exactly agree. :) With all that said, I'm still extremely happy with the 12lbs that I lost so far and am confident that I'll reach my goal weight (8 more lbs) in the next couple of months! Yay!

I'll be back at the end of a month with another update! How are your health and fitness goals going?

Journey to a Healthier Me Update: See How Much I’ve Lost!

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting to share with you my next Denver Fitness Boot Camp update, so needless to say I'm pretty excited to do so today! First, here are the highlights:

Weight Lost So Far: 12 Pounds!!!
Clothes Fit: Jeans...falling off. See below for more of my thoughts on this. :)
Energy: Much better!
Bootcamp Attendance: 3-4 days a week
Diet: Still not perfect, but the nice thing about workout out 4 days a week is that it doesn’t have to be.
Water Intake: Still not where I want it to be, but getting closer!

Now probably the most incredible part of all this is that I was out of the country for two weeks last month, so I wasn't able to make it to boot camp. Even with that, I STILL am down a total of 12 pounds. Do you remember those jeans that I told you about - the ones that I couldn't fit over my thighs? Well they are not falling off and I need a belt to hold them up. I guess that is mostly good, but I have to admit I'm a little bummed that I have to spring for more jeans - again! :)

I seriously didn't think it would be possible to lose that much weight by just getting into the right exercise program. There is just no way that would have been able to accomplish all this on my own. Honestly I'm floored at how easy it has been. Had I known that I could lose 12 pounds in two months by just working out for 45 minutes a few times a week and hardly making any changes to my diet I would have done it a long time ago!

In my last update I shared with you that I have serious trouble drinking enough water. Some of you were kind enough to share some tips with me and my trainer, Devin, also gave me this great video that I want to share with you all (above).

It's officially been just over one month since I started with Denver Fitness Boot Camp and it is time for another update. I've been seriously excited to share this with you all...

Weight Lost So Far: 7 Pounds!!!
Clothes Fit: For the first time in my life I notice a very significant difference in the way my clothes fit.
Energy: Still slowing getting a little better!
Bootcamp Attendance: 4 days a week and  STILL going strong!
Diet: Still not perfect, but the nice thing about workout out 4 days a week is that it doesn't have to be.
Water Intake: Bleh. Can I skip this one...again? I seriously stink at drinking enough water. I might just shrivel up one of these days. Does anyone have any tips on this one?

7 pounds!! Can' you believe it? I can't because honestly I feel like it just fell right off. I mean the morning workouts really kick my butt, but once they are done they're done and I can get on with my day. I've also just recently began looking forward to the morning workouts and if I miss one I really miss it a lot. If I would have known that it was this easy to actually feel comfortable in my own clothes again I would have started this a long time ago.

Even my spandex capri pants are loose now! Spandex and loose...do those two words ever fit in the same sentence?! :) So yeah, that is my update for the beginning of February and hopefully I'll be back in a few weeks with more weight loss news. I've got just 10lbs left to reach my goal weight.

Journey to a Healthier Me Update: Down 2lbs Already!

I'm now two weeks into my Journey to a Healthier Me with Denver Fitness Boot Camp and it's time for another update!

Weight Lost So Far: 2lbs
Clothes Fit: My jeans are starting to get a little more lose already! Yay!
Energy: It's slowing getting a little better!
Bootcamp Attendance: 4 Days a Week and going strong!
Diet: Definite room for improvement here! Time to cut out the fries and chocolate!
Water Intake: Bleh. Can I skip this one? I'm really hoping to up my water intake by the end of the month!

First, I'll share that I'm pretty proud of myself for my attendance rate so far! In the past I've always been terrible at sticking to any form of regular exercise for more than a week, but I've been going strong now for more than two weeks and am actually really starting to really look forward to going each day (gasp!) ;).

I also really love working with each of the three trainers that rotate throughout the week. Each of them have their own style of workout, so it is really great to have things mixed up. The 45 minute workouts are nothing like what you do in a gym. Here are the differences that I've noticed so far:

1. Everyone is in a much better mood than I've experienced in a gym so it is an instant boost to the atmosphere. I've found that this is so vital to having a great workout in the mornings and goes a long way to give me a great positive attitude to face the day.

2. These boot camps are much more intense than any normal gym workout. I get more done in 45 minutes than I could in 2 hours at a gym!

3. It's not overcrowded. In all the classes that I've been to so far, it has never been overcrowded. In fact, this morning we only had 5 people in our class so it was pretty much like having a personal trainer for the session...awesome!

4. The workouts are so much more fun than anything I've done before. This one is hard to describe in words, but I really enjoy all of the different exercises we've been doing and every day I'm shocked that 45 minutes has already gone by.

So anyway, I could ramble on about this all day, but hopefully you get the point - everything is going very well with my workouts. For the second half of the month I hoping to buckle down on eating healthier and drinking more water. I'll be back in two weeks with another update on how it's all going!

denver-fitness-bootcampI have a confession to make. I'm guilty of committing the ultimate fitness budget no-no. Two years ago I purchased a 24 Hour Fitness membership from Costco for around $300. At the time it seemed like a great deal since it was good for 2-years, but unfortunately that turned out not to be the case. The problem is that I only used it twice in two years. Yep, I'm not joking...twice. :-? Looking back, it sure would have been nice to put that $300 in my savings account, used it to pay down my mortgage or heck - I could have bought an entire new wardrobe to fit my now slightly larger bottom. ;) Lesson learned.

A few months ago, I shared with you my experience with The Digest Diet. As you know, I really loved the diet and highly recommend it (check out the books here) but I did not do the best job at incorporating exercise into the program. My schedule was just too jam packed to even think about getting up at 4:00 in the morning to go to the gym. No thank you sir.

Well, after two years of pretty much sitting on my butt (other than a few nights a week of volleyball), I've decided that it's time for a change. This year I'm trying something different, and it is something that I'm very excited about and also thrilled to be able to share with you local readers. During my quest for a solution to my busy schedule and desire to get in shape, I stumbled upon Denver Fitness Boot Camp. denver-bootcampSaturday morning I officially started the boot camp program and boy oh boy did it knock my socks off - or maybe I should say knocked my butt off! ;) The motivational power of having a group of people around you with similar goals is huge. It is such a different environment than going to a gym or working out at home with a video. I'll be sharing more about what we do in boot camp during the coming weeks, but for now I wanted to encourage you local readers to check out their website before you even think about signing up for a gym membership.

There are tons of things that I love about this program, but one of the features that tops this list is definitely the convenience. They are located right off of I-25 in Greenwood Village, the sessions are just 45 minutes long and they are offered at 5am, 6am, 7am and 8am Monday through Friday and at 8am on Saturday. With all of these options it's pretty hard to think up an excuse not to attend. ;)
