It’s Your Turn: What to Get My Paper Deliverer for Christmas?

Here is a comment that reader Hazel left yesterday:

Silly question but it’s been ages since I’ve gotten a paper delivered and now that I’m getting 5, what does a person give the delivery person as a Christmas gift? I’d love to leave out bags of groceries but I suppose money would be better. Any advice would be truly appreciated! Thanks much!

I don’t think that is a silly question at all! Thanks for getting us thinking about the topic Hazel! I think it is very important to take a moment to bless those that work so hard to get us those precious papers each week!

what about a gift card to kings or safeway a long with a thank you note n also a message to let them know you love coupons so they can send any extra your way? you never know you might end up with extra booklets

Great idea! I know he/she shows around 4:00am Sunday morning (okay I admit I’m up at that hour) and was thinking I could meet them when they do the magical musical thudthudthudthudthud. Get a little insight & basics – age, gender, etc. Gift card would be awesome, especially if it’s during one of the store promos that gives a little somethin somethin with the purchase of the card. Many thanks for the idea, the hamsters are turning the brain cogs!

Considering how much gas a paper deliverer must use every day, maybe a gas gift card (Shell, BP, etc) would be a good idea.

Another excellent idea – it would be a gas to give gas! Many thanks! (my brain hamsters are getting a workout this morning!)

Bengay? HaHa – Actually I’m sure any monetary or gift card gift would be appreciated.

too much clutter; I burn most papers; and now receive a small local weekly. No papers until recently for about 30 years. My better half insisted on the paper. I would be about 30 years paperless. Very conservative. Not: part of the fake green economy which is elitist and only supports the few and is not Really conservative of our resources; take a look at all the small packaging that it plastic and not recyclable.

On a less bright note….I also get five papers delivered….I saw all five of them in their bright yellow glory on my side walk this past sunday morning! I went out to do a little drug store shopping early and did not pick them up before I left. When I got home….3 of them were GONE!!! This bothered me on so many levels. Why only take 3? Why not all of them? Now I know that there are much worse things that could happen to a person. That being said…I had my ipod stolen not too long ago and was less upset than having my coupons stolen!!! LOL! It has been an interesting week for self discovery for me. DON’T MESS WITH MY COUPONS!!!

Gosh so sorry to read that but it seems as tho you’ve been blessed with a sense of humor about it all :)

Wouldn’t it be fun to turn the tables a bit? Next week, put out old papers with a notie on the inside “smile, you’re on candid camera”.

But, you might get egged or something (with egg coupons swiped from your own paper!)

I usually give them a Starbucks gift card. I’m so frugal that I don’t go there anymore, but I know they are up so early they must need the caffeine! Ha!
