Safeway is starting this year's Frozen Food Promotion this week and it is a little different than what we have seen in years past. This year, when we spend $10 on participating Frozen Food products (there are over 200), we will receive a Catalina coupon for $5 off the purchase of any "New" Freezer Section products. Some of these new products are listed in this week's ad and I've listed just a few of them below. Don't forget that it is ok to use to combine Manufacturer and Store coupons with this promotion. I believe that your total will only need to be over $10 after all store coupons and sales are deducted, but this is not outlined in the ad so please let me know if you discover otherwise.

This promotion will run through March 31st and you'll need to keep in mind that all of your items much be purchased in a single transaction to earn the $5 Catalina coupon. The ad does not specify a limit on the number of rewards you can earn in a single transaction, so that is something we will have to wait and see on. ;) We have plenty of time to work this frozen promotion, so if you don't see anything that jumps out on you right now, it will be just fine to hold off. I personally hope to be able to get in on the CPK Pizza deal below, since buying two off them will almost get me to the $10 mark!

Kellogg's Eggo Wafflers 10.7oz $2.50
Kellogg's Simply Eggo 12.3oz $2.50
Kellogg's Eggo Thick & Fluffy Family Pack 23.2oz

Kashi Steam Meals 9.5oz $2.99
-$2 RecycleBank Kashi Coupon (75 Points)

Here are a few items on sale in this week's ad that you may be able to use to get to the $10 total:

California Pizza Kitchen 12.6-17oz $4.49 with in-ad coupon
-$3 Catalina wyb (2)
=$2.99 each! A-

DiGiorno Original Pizza 28.2-34.2oz $5 D+

El Monterey Taquitos or Tamales 24oz $4.99
-.75 MQ (1/29 SS)
=$3.99 C

Personal Care

Mennen or Lady Speed Stick 2.3-3.25oz $1.49 with in-ad coupon
-$1 MQ (2/26 SS) *regional coupon
=.49 B+

Pantene Hair Care 6.6-12.6oz $3.49 with in-ad coupon
-$3/2 MQ (2/26 SS)
=$1.99 C-

Hefty One Zip Storage Bags 13-22ct $1.99 with in-ad coupon
-$1/2 MQ (11/3 or 1/1 RP) *both expire on 2/29
=$1.49 C+

The Castle Pines Safeway cashier yesterday told me that their policy had changed and that manufacturer’s coupons would not be accepted with Safeway coupons. She said she’d do it “one last time.” Has anyone else been told this?

This is the policy still posted on Safeway’s website:

The policy only mentions you can’t stack manufacturer coupons, there’s nothing about store coupons –

The internet printable issue may be a hard one to get around since new coupons are not printing the serial number with the barcode – I would imagine Safeway would adjust their policy to the new format eventually because they are not going to want to lose the money/business that those coupons bring in. Policy #11 seems to me to be their general argument, that it’s always up to the management to determine the policy of the moment/situation.

If you feel it is absolutely a make-or-break-coupon-must-go-through have them call corporate. I had to do an “on-principle” call to Target’s corporate and customer service accepted $20 worth of coupons my cashier & the store manager refused to give me. It took an extra 15 minutes, and even though I got the coupons accepted and my cash back, I have to say I didn’t feel all that great leaving the store. Sometimes it’s just better not fighting for a buck.
