Scrabble Catch Phrase Review and Giveaway!

I recently had an opportunity to try out one of Hasbro’s newest games, Scrabble Catch Phrase! I was really curious to try out this new game, since I honestly don’t really care for Scrabble (I know, I know – don’t throw anything at me ), but I love Catch Phrase.

First of all, I love that there are no little parts and pieces to keep track of. This game is contained in one handheld electronic unit that is about the size of a large grapefruit. I also really love that it is very self explanatory. I was able to figure it out just by looking at the buttons on the front of the game.

The game itself is very similar to Catch Phrase and I would say much less similar to Scrabble. Basically it gives one player a word who then has to get the rest of their team to guess what it is. I tried to play it with just two people which ends up being a little pointless in terms of keeping track of who is winning, but it is still pretty fun to pass time or even to play during a road trip. Playing with a group of people (as the game is intended to be payed) is much more fun. You can play for as long or as short as you want and again, I really like that there is no set-up required. I might just leave this on my dining room table as an ice breaker the next time I have guests over.

Really the only slightly negative thing that I have to say about this game is that I thought some of the words were pretty hard to explain in the time you have to get your teammates to guess them. The game is rating for 12 and up, but I think it would be a little difficult for a most 12 year olds to play.

Amazon currently sells Scrabble Catch Phrase for $17.88 (down from $22.99). It also has a 4-1/2 out of 5 star customer rating, so it sounds like most people agreed with me on the game overall.
