Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats

candy corn rice krispies

A rice krispie treat is an often forgotten yet dearly loved treat. The candy corn rice krispie treat has to be one of my most favorite Halloween treats ever, and it is a definite winner with children and adults alike.

It adds a festive look to a favorite delight. Just be ready for lots of questions if you make them because people are eager to figure out how this treat is created so they can re-create it themselves.

Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients:candy corn rice krispies - Copy

3 Tbs. butter

4 cups mini marshmallows

6 cups rice krispies cereal

Yellow and red food coloring

Cooking spray

Directions:

1. In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted. Remove from heat

2. Working VERY quickly, pour the marshmallow mixture into 3 bowls- one with about 20% of the mixture left white in color, one with about 35% of the mixture that is immediately mixed with red and yellow food coloring to make it orange, and one with about 45% of the mixture that is immediately mixed with yellow food coloring. Add plenty of food coloring to make them bright colors. Add the same percentage of the rice krispies to match the percentage of marshmallow mixture into each bowl. Using hands sprayed with cooking spray, mix the contents of each bowl separately by hand so they can be quickly turned into rice krispie treats.

3. Spray a spring form or round pan with cooking spray. Create a circle touching the outside of the pan with the yellow rice krispie treats. Then, create a circle inside of that out of the orange mixture. Fill in the middle with a white circle. It should look like a target shape when finished. Press together to make sure all three parts are connected. Cut like a pizza into 8 slices to reveal the candy corn look.

4. Store treats in an air tight container or eat immediately to ensure freshness.

Tips: Please note that these can be slightly tricky to make simply because the marshmallow mixture hardens up so quickly. I would recommend recruiting some help with step 2 so the ingredients all get blended before they harden up. Have three bowls ready ahead of time and have the food coloring ready to make step 2 easier, too. 😉
