I have been delighted to learn that you can freeze all sorts of things since I started couponing! One of the basic principals of couponing is stockpiling. If something is a grade “A” price [2]
or FREE I always suggest stocking up. That way when the price goes back up, you have enough of the item to carry you through until the next sale comes around. This week there is a really awesome deal on Milk and Cereal [4] at King Soopers (Kroger) stores, so some of you might be considering stocking up! Stockpiling cereal is not that difficult…just keep it in a dry place and make sure to keep an eye on expiration dates. But, did you know that you can also stockpile milk?Although there is no conceivable way that I could possibly fit an entire gallon of milk in my already crammed freezer, perhaps some of you can.
In order to freeze milk you just need to be sure that there is enough room for the milk to expand as it freezes. Some people will will just stick it in the freezer sealed, but I highly suggest pouring a little bit out (into a cup or container of course) before you freeze it. After you do that, just make sure to put the cap back on tightly and stick in the freezer.
Do keep in mind that milk with higher fat content such as whole or 2% might change to a little bit of a darker color once it is frozen, but it is still good. Consider making chocolate milk with it if you just can’t stand the color! Also, milk takes a long time to thaw out so don’t wait until a day before you run out to pull it out of the freezer…give it a few days. Once it does thaw out, just give it a good shake-shake-shake and you will be good to go…and have one less thing to put on your grocery list for the week!
